  • Middle of the night power loss FTL. :-( #
  • Power’s back on. Thanks, PGE! #
  • Sorry I’m going to miss the meatspace portion of CyborgCamp today. But the cybernetic parts of me will be participating as possible. #
  • #cyborgcamp is already #3 on Twitter trends. With all the tweets I’m seeing, there’s no doubt about it. We’re all cyborgs. #
  • Found out that Guitar Hero World Tour Wii instruments will NOT work with Rock Band 2. That changes things. Now leaning towards Rock Band 2. #
  • I like the on-disc setlist for GH:WT better than RB2’s, but the MASSIVE number of downloadable songs for RB2 has more “I love that song!”s #
  • Any opinions/advice for someone who has GH3, GH:Aerosmith, and one Wii guitar (which apparently WILL work in RB2)? GH:WT or RB2 full kit? #
  • Dinner with the dam, then off to see the lights at Portland International Raceway. - Photo: http://bkite.com/02PCV #
  • @Tersteeg dam = iPhone typo I didn’t catch for “fam”. :-) in reply to Tersteeg #
  • @chugg But if I get GH:WT, I’m locked out of any and all RB potential. Stupid Wii incompatible fake plastic musical instruments… *grumble* in reply to chugg #
  • Oh, man! Now that I’ve pretty much settled on Rock Band 2 Wii as the gift I want for my bday, I find out it doesn’t ship until 12/30. :-( #

  • @marusin I assume the new Apple buds work with iPhone, but I’ve heard conflicting reports, too. Waiting on a review. Would be silly not to. in reply to marusin #
  • Hey, remember when the iPhone 3G launched, and AT&T said they’d sell unlocked ones for $499 “after a while”? What ever happened to that? #
  • @junesix No, I remember them specifically saying that unlocked iPhones would be available in the U.S. for $499, sometime “after” the launch. in reply to junesix #
  • Hmm. Amazon Remembers employs *two* HITs on MTurk. One to say “is this identifiable and like to be on Amazon” for $0.01, and another… #
  • And another HIT for $0.10 that says “find this on Amazon”. So they have a penny filter to keep crap/nonsense out of the “identify this” pool #
  • here’s where you can see both HIT pools that Amazon Remembers uses on MTurk: http://tinyurl.com/5msskg #
  • @brampitoyo I use “non-trivial” as the opposite of trivial. Seriously. :-) in reply to brampitoyo #
  • Hmm. I’m likely going to break 3000 followers or 10000 tweets sometime this week. Wonder which will happen first? :-) #
  • Was finally able to get my Twitter Tools daily digests working again on my blog by grabbing this update: http://tinyurl.com/6p4xsc #
  • @adamd I was going to submit a picture of myself to AR, just to see what they’d do. Maybe they have a sense of humor? :-) in reply to adamd #
  • Oh awesome! I’ve finally found a video streaming site (like UStream, Kyte, etc.) that works behind the firewall. Yay Mogulus! Messing now… #
  • @Jerry_Makare If you ever wanted to do Take Five Live, this is how I’d approach it. Come over sometime, I’ll demo. in reply to Jerry_Makare #
  • RT: @rachelbancroft: “Mom, listen to my great rhyme. I know an old lady who swallowed a bell. WHAT THE HELL, she swallowed a bell.” #
  • @ahockley I’m ashamed, embarrassed, and I can’t stop laughing… :-) in reply to ahockley #
  • Hey, can you help me for a second? Join me here: mogulus.com/thejoshbancroftshow #
  • Thanks everyone for helping me expriment with Mogulus! That was REALLY FUN! :-) I’ll tweet/blog about the results, and you can expect more! #
  • @jmoriarty Hmm. It works (as a watcher) on the Intel network. At least we know that it doesn’t on VPN. Thanks for the data point. in reply to jmoriarty #
  • @petegrillo Don’t think I’m going to be able to make it to @cyborgcamp :-( but I always have my toys with me. Will share next time we meet! in reply to petegrillo #

  • @psteinb Ah, I missed your sweet thief tweet. :-) in reply to psteinb #
  • @psteinb You’re not supposed to chew them. Just suck on them, calmly. That way, no teeth stuck together. in reply to psteinb #
  • @psteinb Actually, you’re welcome to any and all candy and snacks at my desk. And you get style points for tweeting a photo of the theft. :) in reply to psteinb #

  • Ooh, I got the new Google Reader interface in my account. I like it. Much cleaner, and feels quite fast. Can’t wait to try on a netbook. #
  • @croncast Actually the old Google Reader layout, with the browser fullscreen and hit “u” to hide the sidebar, was quite good on netbooks. in reply to croncast #
  • Welcome @rogoway, tech reporter and Silicon FOREST blogger at the Oregonian, to Twitter. Glad to see you here, Mike! :-) #
  • You know, with all these new Google Reader features, it would be nice if we could rename a freaking folder by now. :-) #
  • Just trained about a dozen Intel folks in China on how to post to the ISN blog. That puts me at about 14 for today, and ~20 on the week. :-) #
  • @lunarobverse They may have made the advanced “beta” iPhone GReader interface default now. I’ve been loving it for months. :-) in reply to lunarobverse #
  • @pdxCJC How did you manage to rename a folder in Google Reader? in reply to pdxCJC #
  • According to iLounge, its only the new volume buttons on the new Apple in-ear buds that don’t work on iPhones. Clicker and mic should work. #
  • At least, I think that’s what iLounge said. Anyone have another source? #
  • Ah, excellent. Gizmodo says it IS only the volume that doesn’t work on the iPhone. Mic and clicker do work. I think I’m going to get them… #
  • Goodle Reader for iPhone got a little makeover today, too. Buttons are a lighter color, and it feels faster. #

  • http://twitpic.com/puyo - Oh, sweet! Amazon launched a free iPhone app! This is going to be dangerous… :-) #
  • The Amazon iPhone app has a feature called Amazon Remembers, where you take pics of stuff you want to buy and they match it (like SnapTell). #
  • If Amazon Remembers works well, it’s going to be a great feature. I’ll try it out later and report results. #
  • Tested Amazon Remembers by taking a picture of my Kindle. A little while later, I got an email with a match/link. Cooool! :-) #
  • @DavidLuzsi The app is called Amazon Mobile, I just searched for Amazon in the App store. It’s free. in reply to DavidLuzsi #
  • @philmartinez Yeah, and 1-Click purchasing is enabled by default in the Amazon Mobile app (though they do warn you, and you can turn it off) in reply to philmartinez #
  • @mas90guru That is cool (when it finds a match, the link in the email takes you to the item in the iPhone app, along with a regular URL). in reply to mas90guru #
  • And when Amazon Remembers finds a match, it shows up in the iPhone app as well, not just in the email they send you. Nice touch. #
  • Apparently, Amazon is using Mechanical Turk (human beings) to match photos taken for Remembers, and not algorithmic matching. Interesting. #
  • @BrianEnigma Yeah, it’s cool that they’re using Mechanical Turk. I guess Amazon is the one who pays for the HITs. Wonder how it’ll scale? in reply to BrianEnigma #
  • @egrigg9000 Cool idea (taking a picture of an event poster, getting an iCal file back). Doubt Amazon would do it, but someone else should! in reply to egrigg9000 #
  • @adamd @camikaos I’m sock-sock-Croc-Croc. :-) And @rachelbancroft and our kids can’t stand shoes and socks, and are often barefoot. :-) in reply to adamd #
  • @camikaos I don’t think they can help it. @rachelbancroft was raised by hippies in Eugene, and passed the barefoot tendency on. :-) in reply to camikaos #
  • Want to browse (or work on, for $0.10 each) the photos that Amazon Remembers users send? Here’s the HIT on MTurk: http://tinyurl.com/5g89an #
  • @warnercrocker Thanks for the nod in the 4th annual Ink Blot awards. :-) Would definitely love to have a beverage with you some day! :-) in reply to WarnerCrocker #
  • Anyone know of other iPhone/mobile apps using Amazon’s Mechanical Turk - human processors? They have an API, but I don’t know of many apps. #
  • You know, Amazon’s iPhone app could add Shazam-like “listen to a song then buy it from AmazonMP3 Store” functionality. That would rock. #
  • @feedle Yeah, yeah, buy a gPhone. But here’s Amazon’s oppty to horn in on iTunes’ music buying monopoly on the iPhone. Disruption! :-) in reply to feedle #
  • @feedle Easy on the iPhone/Apple/Jobs hate there, fella. ;-) in reply to feedle #
  • @feedle Meh. T-Mobile and Google will lock you in just as much as Apple and AT&T. Yes, lock-in is evil, but my iPhone makes me happy! :-) in reply to feedle #
  • Wow, Amazon Remembers is getting faster. Took a picture of a Nintendo DS on my screen @ Amazon, AR identified it within about a minute. #
  • @feedle Why do you pay for three different cell phone service plans and have three SIM cards? in reply to feedle #
  • @feedle Ah. I don’t travel internationally enough to pay for another account in another country. So unlocking gets me nothing. in reply to feedle #
  • @jkuramot I’ve tested AR with my Kindle, my MBP power brick, my Timbuk2 Metro bag, and a screen image of a DS Lite. They nailed them all. :) in reply to jkuramot #

  • @bkwalker I just tested three rather obscure devices I had at my desk. We’ll see if AR identifies them all. in reply to bkwalker #

  • I may not be at #pdxwi tonight, but I follow so many people who are, it’s like I’m attending remotely, from inside all of your heads. :-) #
  • Getting new people involved in a community is hard. I say it’s more about a friendly, willing-to-teach attitude than any magic site or tool. #
  • A lot of us (including me) jump to “let’s build an X for that!”, but I think we’d get better results from more mentoring and friendshipping. #
  • @funkatron @jtkendall The new unibody MacBooks and Pros do support audio input via the iPhone earbids’ mic. in reply to funkatron #
  • Speaking of earbuds, I’m torn. I need new ones. Do I spend $80 on Apple’s new ones, or $20 on another pair of Sony MDR-EX51s? Decisions… #

  • The new Nokia N97 looks like a great device. Funny how everyone compares it to the iPhone. ;-) #
  • The N97 will be DOA in the US unless they get AT&T to offer it. For the same or lower price as the iPhone. #
  • What does the developer ecosystem look like for Nokia? Hard to compete with the 10,000 new apps in six months that iPhone has triggered. #
  • @ChrisLeckness Apple certainly didn’t invent the touchscreen phone, but they were the first to do a REALLY GOOD touch interface. in reply to ChrisLeckness #
  • @marshallk I love to show new people the Common Craft RSS video, Twitter Search, and the concept of feeds for automation/newsreading. in reply to marshallk #
  • Finally got through work email backlog from being on vacation last week. Found a LOT of filters I could add to streamline things there. #

  • @Soft You are correct. Google’s Calaboration app only configures iCal to sync to GCal. An “easy button”, if you will. :-) in reply to Soft #

  • In an all day team face to face meeting with the ISN team. @billpearson just showed a really cool video. #
  • We’re doing an unusual (for Intel) but very cool exercise: everyone was to buy (or borrow) a book, then tell us why they chose that book. :) #
  • OH: “We shouldn’t be colliding with another galaxy. That’s just sloppy management. Who’s looking into this?” #
  • OH: “Pompei was destroyed by a volcano. That could NEVER happen here.” :-) #
  • Today is the 3rd birthday of Intelpedia, the Intel-wide internal wiki I created. Celebrations taking place worldwide at Intel sites. :-) #
  • Intelpedia has several “children”, wikis at other companies that I’ve helped people set up. It’s contagious! :-) #
  • I never kept track of what companies I’ve helped with wiki stuff. Am thinking it would be nice to keep track, see how they’re progressing. #
  • @linuxaid is ALREADY posting the videos from Ignite Portland 4 last night. Will do a post on our site soon (I’m in an all day meeting). in reply to linuxaid #
  • @janetleejohnson The wiki platform I recommend and teach is MediaWiki, but it’s not always the best choice. in reply to janetleejohnson #
  • @davekresta The problem of easy wiki for newbies to edit is age old. Can try a WYSIWYG plugin but I say teach people through the curve. in reply to davekresta #
  • @krystlechung In general, I advocate teaching people to be smarter and more capable over dumbing the tools down to lowest common denominator in reply to krystlechung #
  • @jackbaty Ah. “Making it simple” versus “dumbing it down” is a subjective slippery slope. It depends. :-) I’m all for making things simple. in reply to jackbaty #
  • @davekresta It’s a fine line. You want to make it as easy as you can to edit, but they also have to climb the learning curve. in reply to davekresta #
  • It was SO cool to have @rachelbancroft with me at Ignite Portland last night. I loved introducing her to my tweeps. :-) She’s so wonderful! #
  • @matt_mcc Anyone at Intel can edit/contribute to Intelpedia. The info is limited to stuff that it’s OK for the whole company to see. in reply to matt_mcc #
  • Postulate: Building community sells more of your company’s product that traditional marketing efforts. Discuss. Data points or anecdotes? #
  • @krystlechung Interfaces (e.g. blog engines) can make things easy for people, but they will benefit from knowledge of the markup code. in reply to krystlechung #
  • @krystlechung Right. I would never tell someone “You’ll never have to learn ANY HTML. You can always just use the WYSIWYG interface.” :-) in reply to krystlechung #
  • Hmm. Turns out that thinking up ideas that really “push the envelope” is really hard. #
  • @wajiii At the least, people should tag their photos igniteportland or ip4, so they can be found. This is the first I’ve heard of a pool. in reply to wajiii #

  • It seems that I’m going to be on the @strangelovelive show tonight, recapping #IP4 with @camikaos and @drnormal. Come join us! #
  • @aweiss LOL I’d even jump through that hoop, I want the Google app so bad. :-) in reply to aweiss #
  • Hey, Portland - get out and see the moon. Full, low on the horizon to the NE. Very cool looking. #
  • I’m going to be on @strangelovelive in about 20 minutes, with @camikaos and @drnormal. Via Skype, sadly, due to by suburban habitat. #
  • @ahockley It was more of a timing issue than anything, had to get the kids home from the sitter after date night with @rachelbancroft. :-) in reply to ahockley #

  • Today’s the big day! Ignite Portland 4! Tag is #IP4, if you’re into that sort of thing. I need to get my search feeds in place to track buzz #
  • @jarvitron Yeah, but, besides a touchscreen (which I wouldn’t want), what other 901 add-ons are there? I don’t know of any exciting ones… #
  • @jarvitron I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a version of the 1000H with 3G announced. They’re the same motherboard. Shouldn’t hard to add. YMMV. #
  • @Britopian Why does something always have to get killed? I prefer to think in more collaborative, creative terms than militant/warfare. #
  • I predict that Ignite Portland is going to show up on the Twitter Trends at search.twitter.com tonight. :-) #
  • @Britopian I see. I was illustrating a point, too. ;-) #
  • @turoczy Thanks for the awesome “tips and tricks to enjoy Ignite Portland” post (http://twurl.cc/7gn). I reposted part on the IP blog. :-) #
  • Off to lunch with the ISN team, then, finish getting ready for Ignite tonight. I’m nervous about getting up on stage for “What is Ignite” :( #
  • @Brady we wish you could make it, too! Itgoing to be awesome. :-) #
  • So, Ignite Portland doesn’t even start for a few hours, and we’re already killing Twitter? Awesome. :-) #ip4 #
  • @rachelbancroft and I are on our way over to the east side for Ignite Portland 4! w00t! :-) #

  • I, for one, welcome our new spam filter-based software overlords. #
  • @wesley83 The iPhone syncs and works perfectly well with Windows, too. Don’t let lack of a Mac keep you from the awesomest phone on earth :) #
  • @wesley83 iPhone web browsing is SO much better than WM. Tons of awesome apps in the app store. The overall experience is much nicer. #
  • @Stammy I noticed that limitation (can’t page back more than 200 in my Twitter history) a bit ago. It’s why I now archive mine on my blog. #
  • @wesley83 More reasons I love my iPhone: Ocarina. Google Earth. Lightsaber. iChalky. Shazam. Pandora. Urbanspoon. i.TV. Brighkite. Etc. ;-) #
  • @wesley83 I had WM devices for years. They’re very capable. But the iPhone blows them away. And why would one want Flash on mobile web page? #
  • @wesley83 Which apps do you use for productivity? (I’m not trying to badger you here. Just a friendly comparison. :-) #
  • @wesley83 Honestly, the three things I use most on my iPhone are the iPhone web versions of FriendFeed, Google Reader, and Twitter. #
  • @robevans Since when is “can multitask” the definition of a smartphone? How does that make a difference? What’s real-world benefit? #
  • @wesley83 Cool. Like I said, WM is a good platform, and I’m sure you’ll be happy with your phone. :-) #
  • @robevans I totally understand wanting more flexibility. I’m willing to sacrifice it for something that does what I want REALLY well. :-) #
  • @robevans Yup, it’s all *nix under the covers. Jailbroken, it’s basically a little BSD box in your pocket. :-) #
  • How stupid is it that the fancy new iPhone formatted Google search results (http://tinyurl.com/68m8kj) don’t work from Safari’s search box? #
  • The new Flip Mino HD looks REALLY nice. A 720p video cam for $229. Added it to my Wishlist in case someone wants to buy me one. :-) #
  • So. Ignite Portland 4 is tomorrow night. Are you ready? I am. Oh, hey! There’s going to be a surprise announced there… #
  • @influxx The Flip Mino HD is only $229, not $300. Even better! :-) #
  • @turoczy Indeed. Make sure to pay attention during my “What is Ignite?” talk at the beginning of the evening. :-) #
  • @ahockley Sadly, the fire marshall and the owners of the Bagdad put the kibosh on the pyrotechnics…. #
  • @turoczy I’ll tell you. Tomorrow night. ;-) #
  • @greghughes If we ever do an Ignite in a pyrotechnic-friendly venue, we just might take you up on that. Thanks! :-) #
  • Aaand, my Internet connection through Intel’s proxy is taking a dirt nap. Neighbors’, too. I feel slower and dumber. #
  • @chrisorourke The proxies are occasionally cranky and overworked, so I can’t really blame them. Sometimes, the tubes just get clogged. :-) #
  • @jltitus Google Reader, Twitter, FriendFeed, and NetVibes. #
  • Get an Eee PC 900A netbook from Best Buy for $279: http://tinyurl.com/5o8l4l Not the cream of the crop, but a great deal. #
  • Now THIS is a brilliant idea: http://www.sitorsquat.com - I downloaded the free iPhone app (there’s a BlackBerry version, too, @ahockley :-) #
  • @ahockley Oh, come on. Tell me you’ve never been in public and needed to find a decent public restroom. I know I have. :-) #
  • Ooops. @rachelbancroft just reminded me about some DVDs I was supposed to return to the library last week. That are still in my car. :-( #
  • I refuse to check my Twitterank, because it automatically tweets as me, without warning. Nice way to harvest people’s Twitter credentials. #
  • RT @tiesque: Idea: BankAccountRank.com - Provide me the login credentials of your bank account & I give you a meaningless # in return. #
  • @spinnerin LIghts just flickered out here at Intel (JF1) in Hillsboro, too, which is really unusual. Wonder what it was? #
  • It’s times like this (power hit in the Portland area) when I REALLY wish @Twitter hadn’t killed @pulseofpdx by disabling “with_friends”. :-( #
  • @bjedwards And that totally depends on whether you believe/trust him. Anyone can write anything on the internet! :-) #
  • Hello, free floating anxiety. Been a while. Remind me not to listen to NPR Planet Money podcast about the economy when you’re around. #
  • @stevenwalling I don’t know who’s behind @PortlandRain, but they’re brilliant. I pronounce “fake natural phenomena” the next Twitter meme. #
  • Ice Cream Review: Ben & Jerry’s Visialize Whirled Peace, not so gret akshully. :-( #
  • I think TweetDeck can FINALLY see all of my followers, so lists aren’t uselessly incomplete anymore. I think I might be falling in love… #
  • Ah. @PortlandRain has a partner in crime: @PortlandSun. I get the feeling they don’t talk much. :-) #
  • And now all the cool kids are telling me I need to try Tweetsville on iPhone. Will it be good enough to get me to switch from Twitteriffic? #
  • @ihenpecked No, it uses the iPhone’s data connection (EDGE, 3G, or wifi). Only app that uses text messages is the text msg app, AFAIK. #
  • @jezlyn I’ve only been using Tweetsville for a few minutes, but it’s really good. Fast. Looks and feels like Apple wrote it. Worth the $3.99 #
  • @jezlyn Yeah, I know what you mean. I don’t buy TOO many apps, and $3.99 is about my impulse limit, but it DOES add up fast. :-) #
  • I love that Tweetsville remembers my custom “ego” search string when I quit. Nice. #
  • @ahockley That reminds me. I’m out of Moo cards. :-( #
  • Oops. Messing around with both Tweetdeck and Tweetsville at the same time, I’ve blown my API request quota. That means goodnight! :-) #
  • @lawduck My “fits in a tweet” netbook recommendation is an Eee PC 1000H or MSI Wind. But there are lots of other good ones. #
  • @lawduck Worried about size? Eee PC 901 or HP Mini Note 1000 is the way to go. But the HP has a slow 4200 RPM drive, and only 3 cell battery #
  • @jarvitron The Eee PC 1000H is Atom-based, too. Nearly identical to the 901 except it’s bigger, has a 10″ screen, and a hard drive. #

  • @verso Bummer. I’ll probably only be down here for my session. Short trip. #
  • Oh great. @rachelbancroft just taught Gabe how to wear his sister’s panties on his head like a hat. That’s gonna need therapy… #

  • @jezlyn Yeah, I think that Sprint thing is going to get old fast. I keep coming back to Digg Arc. What other sites make good screensavers? #
  • @geekygirldawn I don’t know how you juggle everything. I have half that on my plate, and I’m already pulling my hair out. :-) #

  • Second meeting of the day already. Several more slated. This week just might kill me. But if I can survive until Saturday, I’ll be OK. #
