- Awesome Lego beach house I’ve been building with the kids: http://twitpic.com/8rstd #
- Lego beach house even has a Lego BBQ with a Lego chicken leg and Lego patio furniture: http://twitpic.com/8rsyv #
- Having another brief dalliance (don’t tell @Tweetie!) with a new iPhone Twitter app: Birdfeed. The cool kids say it’s keen. They’re right. #
- @rael Scrolling in Birdfeed is smooth and fast on my 3GS. Will try on my wife’s 3G. (aside: ZOMG @rael talked to me! Squee!
in reply to rael # - @mulderc Pleasing appearance is subjective. I prefer Birdfeed and Tweetie’s visuals to Tweetdeck. They’re just different kinds of good. in reply to mulderc #
- OK, wow. I’m liking Birdfeed a lot more than I thought I would. It’s really fast, and brimming with nice design touches. Kudos to the devs! #
- @jkwatson It’s worth $5 if you appreciate fine, well crafted software. If you don’t care, use Tweetdeck (which is good and free). in reply to jkwatson #
- A well crafted piece of software is a joy to use. It goes beyond functional and useful. Design is not how it looks, but how it works. #
- MG Siegler has a nice writeup about Birdfeed on TechCrunch that echoes my thoughts nicely: http://tcrn.ch/4sQ #

- Mowed the lawn. Or should I say, mowed the tall weeds living amongst the moss. (To be fair, there *is* some grass over in the corner.) #
- @gabebancroft stepped on a piece of glass. Cut wasn’t too bad, but you’d never know for all the blood and crying. Poor little guy…
# - I want to pave our yard, but @rachelbancroft won’t let me. We investigated no maintenance landscaping, but it’s $$. #
- OK, I relented. Giving the Brightkite iPhone app another chance on the 3GS. No crashes, you hear? – http://bkite.com/08ZAr (from Powell’…) #

- You thought Ebert’s Transformers 2 review was epic? Check out this one by Charlie Anders over at io9: http://bit.ly/NJJBn I am SO going!
# - To be clear, my expectations re: Transformers 2 are set appropriately. I just want to see cool giant robots transform and blow stuff up.
#
- @marshallk I just want them to hurry up and release Layar for iPhone. Augmented reality is going to be HOT in the next year or so. in reply to marshallk #

- @turoczy I will happily make a place for a Silicon Florist sticker on my laptop.
in reply to turoczy # - @emmabancroft LOVED her @whiffies chocolate pie last night. All the way home, she talked about it, and how she was going to refry it.
# - I had a particular moment of Geek Dad Pride when @emmabancroft said “I can has moar pies?”
# - We can has @isntv banners!
http://twitpic.com/8eb46 # - I guess I really am corrupting my children with lolspeak. It’s a regular occurrence to hear “O Hai!” or “I has a corm” in our household.

Spankinating the childrens! ? #
- Apparently, the iPhone 3GS geotags videos as well as photos. At least, iPhoto knows where my videos were shot. Cool. #
- OK, I finally broke down and bought one of the Emoji apps. ?? #
- Autostitch, the best pano stitcher software I’ve ever used, has a great iPhone version. It’s awesome. http://twitpic.com/8c9×6 #
- The thing I love about Autostitch (Windows and iPhone) is that it doesn’t care if your images overlap perfectly. It just works like magic. #
- @pdxmark2 /chants “one of us! One of us!”
? in reply to pdxmark2 # - We happen to be in the neighborhood, so the fam and I are getting us some @whiffies fried pies for the first time!
# - @whiffies pies are dreamy. I had chocolate cream. And we saw @ravenme, @oleoptene, @tiesque, @geekygirldawn, @morganpdx, @ginabean and more! #
- @drnormal @rachelbancroft had a calligraphy meeting in West Moreland, so we were in the neighborhood.

- Does anyone know if the iPhone 3GS works with the Apple headphones with inline volume controls (like the ones on the new Nano)? #lazytwitter #
- @jkwatson Seriously? The earbuds on the 3GS have the +/- volume control? I haven’t even opened mine, I can’t wear them (don’t fit my ears). in reply to jkwatson #
- @clint Thanks. That might be a good tidbit to add to your 3GS review – I haven’t seen that mentioned anywhere else. in reply to clint #
- There’s a whole murder of crows outside the window, in the JF1 courtyard. Are juvenile crows called murderlings? Murdettes? #

- @jmoriarty @davest That’s not even funny. Let me find *your* deepest darkest fear, and fly it around on a toy helicopter.
in reply to jmoriarty # - Great. Now everyone knows that I’m deathly, irrationally afraid of Terminator endoskeleton skulls with glowing red eyes. Commence teasing. #
- @jmoriarty I’m sure they make a life size Paula Abdul pillow or something. I bet it even plays “Opposites Attract” or something.
in reply to jmoriarty # - @camikaos That’s how you know I’m not one of them. No self-respecting Terminator would wear Crocs.
in reply to camikaos # - @mike_strock Tap and hold until they jiggle then tap X to delete. Home button stops the jiggling (you can rearrange while they jiggle, too). in reply to mike_strock #
- @rachelbancroft is awesome. This is what she got me for Father’s Day (been on a bit of a Lego thing): http://twitpic.com/82wdk #
- Headed out bright and early to pick up my iPhone 3G S preorder at the AT&T store. Forgive me, but I’m going to tweet a lot of iPhone today. #
- Surprised that I’m the first person at the Hillsboro AT&T store, at 5:15AM. The parking lot is EMPTY. Huh. #
- This AT&T store is not doing a separate line for pre-orders, but a combined line: http://twitpic.com/7slcp #
- Funny that they have a giant ad for the Samsung Eternity as beginning of the iPhone line: http://twitpic.com/7slhn #
- It’s 5:30, and I’m still the only person on line at the Hillsboro AT&T store. Starting to feel (extra) nerdy and lonely and self-conscious. #
- @gwynnebaer (Matt) is here now, so I don’t feel so lonely anymore. We’re still the only two in line. At least the company is good!
# - @k1mb3rly Nice to meet you!
in reply to k1mb3rly # - @1tonyjones it is raining, but the strip mall we’re at, the storefront is covered. We’re good!
in reply to 1tonyjones # - It’s 6:15am, and there are now 6 people in line at the Hillsboro AT&T store. #
- @palmsolo Oh, man. That sucks. Sorry to hear it.
in reply to palmsolo # - It’s almost time! Going to put my chair away. #
- Whee! First tweet from my new iPhone 3G S. Video is AMAZING!
# - My first iPhone 3G S video is already on YouTube, but I can’t get a direct link. Try http://YouTube.com/jabancroft #
- Huh. That video I shot on my iPhone? YouTube can’t play it on my iPhone: http://twitpic.com/7sulx #
- YouTube link for my first iPhone 3G S test video: http://bit.ly/H1OtD #
- @davechen @ravenme Understandable. I just thought that since it’s likely already uploading an H.264/Quicktime/MPEG-4 it could just play it. #
- Home now, restoring my new iPhone from my backup, and doing the same for @rachelbancroft. SIM swap was a piece of cake – did it in store. #
- @BMW I’ve been REALLY impressed with the video quality of the 3G S so far. I don’t think I’ll carry a Flip anymore. No need. in reply to BMW #
- @KevinDJones That’s because I shot in portrait orientation. You can get a normal aspect ratio in landscape. Video is 640×480 (or 480×640). in reply to KevinDJones #
- RT @hangry: iPhone Photo Tip: Email a FULL RESOLUTION photo if you copy and paste it into a new email instead of using “Send in Email”. #
- Just decided I’ve got WAY too many unwatched video podcasts in iTunes. Gotta dump em. This restore is taking AGES.
#impatient # - Holy crap the 3G S is fast. JavaScript-y stuff in Safari, like Gmail or Reader, is startlingly quick. Wow. #
- When you email a video from the 3G S, it gets compressed to 480×360, about 800Kbps. Original/native video file is 640×480, about 3.5Mbps. #
- Here’s another 3G S test video, shot in landscape: http://bit.ly/EJWHj I say unless you have a reason to do portrait, this is the way to go. #
- @crunchysue I had both, actually. My wife was using a first gen, and I had a 3G. Now we have all three – a whole family of iPhones!
in reply to crunchysue # - @psteinb Sorry! I’m working remote today (got a downtown meeting at lunch). You’re like the 5th Intel person to ask if they could see it.
in reply to psteinb # - I just can’t get over how much faster the 3G S is compared to the 3G. Safari is so fast it’s a little disorienting.
# - Peggle loads so fast on the 3G S that the intro music doesn’t even get halfway through.
# - @BrianEnigma Calculator loads a hair quicker on the 3G S. Maybe 300 milliseconds. in reply to BrianEnigma #
- Side by side, Peggle on a 3G S makes it all the way to “Touch to Play” before the intro music *even starts playing* on a 3G. Wow. #
- Man, all of a sudden it’s raining *hard* in downtown Portland. #pdxtst #
- Know what’s weird? From downtown out to Hillsboro, it poured. On TV Hwy, it’s raining. My house, .5 mi south? The ground is dry.
# - Looking at the animated radar maps, this big storm missed my house completely by less than .5 miles. Lucky me with my leaky roof.
# - @SuperSpiker Sure. You can get animated radar maps at http://i.wund.com, and the WeatherBug Elite app has them, too. in reply to SuperSpiker #
- @AndruEdwards I activated my wife’s “upgrade” first, then just swapped SIMs. Took less than a minute (restoring each took much longer). in reply to AndruEdwards #
- I am totally bummed that I missed out on the #osbridge fun this week, especially the #squareup later with @wilw! I’m a bad nerd.
# - OK, *now* we’ve got the downpour in Aloha. #pdxtst #
- Portland, if this rain in Aloha is any indication, you’ve got another soaking on the way. Prepare yourselves. #pdxtst #
- Something else that’s *way* faster on the 3G S: App installs. Dang. #
- @jezlyn Yes, you can swap active SIMs between iPhones. I did it this morning. Voice/data work instantly. in reply to jezlyn #
- @scaleovenstove Video on the 3G S is superb. Really good quality. See http://friendfeed.com/jabancroft for some samples from this morning. in reply to scaleovenstove #
- Taking the WRX into the shop – it sprung a coolant leak at the top of the radiator. I hope it’s only a hose. #
- Words you do not want to overhear at the auto repair shop: “it sprays out like a freaking geyser!”
# - @mike_strock LOL that’s true, that would be worse. Or “Hey, watch this!”
in reply to mike_strock # - Ouch. Radiator it is. Has a six inch crack. Methinks the fine service personnel at Gas Can Bob’s leaned on it at an oil change 2 weeks ago. #
- Got confirmation from AT&T that my pre-ordered 3G S has arrived. Now I just have to wait until 7AM! Gotta get to bed early…
# - Is it just me, or has “Best of Day/Week/Month” disappeared from FriendFeed’s iPhone page? I used to use that a lot,… http://ff.im/49tPq #
- @PaulDockter did you order from Apple or AT&T? I couldn’t stand the thought of waiting at home for delivery. Lining up has become tradition. in reply to PaulDockter #
- I was Line Waiter #1 for the first iPhone, and something like #5 for the 3G. @gwynnebaer and I are going about 5AM tomorrow. Whee!
# - @lunarobverse The AT&T store in Hillsboro. I wish I was closer to an Apple Store. That seems like it would be a fun crowd.
in reply to lunarobverse # - Picked up the WRX with its new radiator. Got an email alert for the (big) debit transaction from Chase *before I left the shop*. Impressive. #
- @lunarobverse I totally understand. Hanging out in line is *fun*. it’s a great vibe. Let your geek flag fly!
in reply to lunarobverse # - Apparently all the preordered iPhones (via Apple) are being held in Kentucky. UPS glitch, actual delay, or cruel joke?
