@Kelly - I'm on the hunt for a good client app for FriendFeed. I, too, am in love with Twitterrific, and honestly, I wish they'd add FF support. I've tried Twhirl, which can do FriendFeed, but not very well. I've tried Alert Thingy, which is better (it combines Twitter and FF into one stream, then "de-dupes" the Twitter entries). Currently, I'm using a FluidApp site specific browser pointed at the new iPhone interface for FF (http://friendfeed.com/iphone/), and it's working pretty well, but I still hop into my FF browser tab for full functionality (you can't "hide" or "more" from the iPhone interface, and I don't know why).

I'm doing lots of research/testing, and I'll for sure post when I find and settle on the best solution. It could be, at this point, that it doesn't exist yet. Maybe something new like Mionews? We'll see...

I loved your post on this! Now I want to know how you are consuming FF. Is it RSS or through the web page or Fluid or some other way I don't even know about yet? Twitter really got good for me the minute I took one good look at Twitterrific. As soon as someone else gives me a way to do this in a window in the corner that is not a web page I am SO there.

@Pieter - Oh, it's not dead. Yet. But it's headed that way, and it makes me sad. I LOVE Twitter, and I'm rooting for them, but this is getting ridiculous, and if I'm honest with myself, it's time to start looking for alternatives.

I don't think Twitter is dead yet.

The API is used by many competitors worldwide to provide the possibility to co-post on them and on twitter...

Some other reasons are pointed out at

@Brian - yes, I definitely want to do a feature tour or whatever of why I think FriendFeed rocks. I actually just recorded an episode of the Bit Stories podcast with Brian, where we talked about it, and I'm working on some "social media tools for software engineers" training at work that would benefit greatly from something like that. So keep an eye out! :-)

@Phil, you reminded me of something - see the update I posted above, in the original post (about how I'm bringing FriendFeed comments/likes back here to the original post using an awesome WordPress plugin). Thanks! :-)

Do you think that you could maybe write up a intro or tour of the social features of FriendFeed (and specifically Twitter)? I signed up long, long, long ago and it did not strike me as anything special. It pretty much looked and acted like an RSS reader for social media sites--something that's great if you are not high-tech enough to be using an RSS reader daily, and something that's great for discovering what your friends are subscribing to (and your friends' friends that you might not realize are out there) so that you can add them to your RSS reader. At the time, I did not find anything particularly compelling in there to use routinely.
