<description>Looks like you and the family had a nice Christmas. I also got a Shuffle to add to my Creative Zen. I debated allowing iTunes on my computer, I just hate the handcuffs Apple has placed on the whole digital music business, not to mention the battery replacement problems, but I relented because of the form factor and how great it would be for patrolling the ski trails this winter and the wilderness trails this coming summer. Besides, I'll just continue to use my Yahoo Music subscription and recognize that my portable downloads just won't be portable on the Shuffle.

The one surprising disappointment to me was that the Shuffle was recognized by Yahoo Music Engine and MusicMatch (they are really the same thing, only MusicMatch has more stable operation), and would load podcasts and mp3s, but nothing was playable unless loaded through iTunes. Too bad, but easy enough to deal with for the little Shuffle, it's portability and battery life are just too difficult to compete with.

Maybe someday Apple will have enough competition that it will open the design and operating restrictions...but I won't hold my breath.

Happy New Year to you, Josh!!
