Smartphone Thoughts - MPx220 Starting To Show Up At Various Online Retailers
SmartphoneThoughts has got a list of Euro online resellers offering the MPX220 for pre-order, with a price between €441 and €461, and an expected ship date of October 15.
So now, instead of paying those guys in Miami $1400 for one, you can just import it from Europe, which seems to be the best way to get all the cool Smartphones these days.
www.tekguru.co.uk News: Proporta Launches an Aluminium Case for the hp iPAQ rz17xx series
I love aluminum cases:

Perhaps they’ll come out with a version for the similarly sized rx3700 series, with a camera cutout? (hint, hint!)
Go check out this Flash landing page for the MPX220, which lists AT&T as the carrier. It’s got to be coming soon!
Clicking through takes you to the HelloMoto page for the MPX220, which has been around for a while, and where the first 1000 owners of the MPX220 can register to receive a free Motorola HS810 Bluetooth Headset.
Amazon.com: Cell Phones: Motorola A630 Phone (T-Mobile)
Shades of old two-way pagers… The Motorola A630, the funky little phone that’s basically got the guts of a V600 but flips open to reveal a QWERTY keyboard has shown up on Amazon from T-Mobile:

How cool would this little guy have been if they put Windows Mobile for Smartphones on it? Can you say “MPX220 and C500 Killer”? *sigh*
Engadget - The DT-10 M50S, Casio’s new Pocket PC
I don’t know if they’re going for the most confusing device name ever, or the most brick-like of the current Pocket PCs, but Casio has launched an updated Pocket PC - the DT-10 M50S:
No word if they even plan to release it in the U.S., and in these days of big OEMs like Sony and Toshiba abandoning the U.S. PDA market, the magic 8-Ball says chances are slim.
If it were me? I’d find a way to make it dirt cheap, and take on Dell for the “best value” title in Pocket PCs. Anything to make people see past how ugly it is.
Aximsite - x50 Release Date and Pricing
User Cilicon472 over at Aximsite claims to have received details on the X50’s different model specs, prices, and release date. Here’s what he got:
X50 - 416MHz PXA270 CPU, 64MB RAM, no WiFi, 3.5″ QVGA = $299
X50 - 520MHz PXA270 CPU, 128MB RAM, WiFi, 3.5″ QVGA = $399
X50v - 612MHz PXA270 CPU, 128MB RAM, WiFi, 3.7″ VGA = $499
All models feature 64MB ROM, Bluetooth, CF and SDIO slots, and an 1100mAh battery.
The cited “launch date” is October 10, with an “order date” listed as October 12.
Some of the users over at Aximsite are a little upset about the prices being higher than anticipated, but I think that they’re right on. For comparison’s sake, HP’s flagship iPAQ 4700 series, with comparable specs to the X50v, lists for $649.
The only one I’d consider out of the three is the X50v with the VGA screen. If I didn’t need a VGA screen, I’d go for an X30 624MHz for under $300.
New Treo 650 pics! - Engadget - www.engadget.com
A bunch of new (blurry) photos of a Sprint-branded Treo 650 have leaked out, and are all over at the usual suspects:
Interesting tidbits: removable battery is confirmed, battery is a beefy 2200 mAh, and the OS appears to be version 5.4.5 (Garnet).
My friend and geeky cohort Brian is having a change of heart with regard to his trusty iPAQ 2215 Pocket PC. He’s thinking about switching to a new device, possibly one from palmOne, and he’s detailing his reasoning for switching in a series of posts over at his blog.
Go check it out, and see if you agree/disagree with any of his observations.
The Seattle Times: Business & Technology: Third-generation mobile wireless network comes calling
The Seattle Times has got a first hand review of AT&T’s new 3G wireless data service, UTMS. While it offers speeds up to 300 Kbps (comparable to a slow DSL connection, but much faster than GPRS), the service is expensive ($80/month for use with the PC Card modem) and the Times reporter had coverage issues at various places around town, where you’d expect there to be a strong signal.
Right now, UTMS is only available in Seattle, Phoenix, San Francisco, and Detroit. But if you’re in one of those cities, have $80/month to spare, and need the fastest cellular wireless connection out there, then UTMS might be for you.
